Paula is one of those dogs who makes us want to beat someone in the face - like her former owner. Paula is about 5 years old based on her teeth and she has spent her life in a pen and having litter after litter after litter of puppies because the person who owned her never got her spayed. Finally, he agreed to surrender her when he was also wanting to surrender her latest litter of puppies. The puppies have made their way to new homes in New York, but now Paula is left behind and she is a bit of a sad story. She is petrified of anyone she doesn't know and will cower and shake. She has warmed up to people she does know and is really responding well with affection, treats, kind words, and gentle pets. She has a long way to go but she certainly behaves like the kind of dog who will bond very hard with a person she trusts and will be loyal to them without question. She would do best in a home with another friendly and mellow dog because Paula takes her cues from her dog friends who have really helped her learn how to be a pooch. This girl is heartworm negative which was a shock given she has not seen a vet in 2 years, and is current on her vaccines. She will be spayed in the near future. Please ask about this sweet dog and hopefully we can find her a family who has enough patience and kindness to help her learn how to be a dog and see people as these strangely upright beings who give her cheese!
